Sixty-nine Jamaicans have died on the nation’s roadways as a result of 61 fatal crashes up to Monday, March 4.

This is according to the latest crash report by the Road Safety Unit (RSU) in the Island Traffic Authority (ITA).

The figure represents a 20 per cent decline in road fatalities and an 18 per cent decline in road crashes, when compared to the same period in 2023.

The RSU is projecting a 2.0 per cent decline in fatalities when compared with 2023.

The parishes of Trelawny, St James, Hanover and Westmoreland accounted for the highest number of road fatalities.

Motorcyclists, pedestrians and private motor vehicle drivers accounted for the highest number of road users killed on the nation’s roadway.

The RSU continues its appeal for a change in behaviour among road users when traversing the roadways.
