A 72-year-old man has been sentenced in the St Catherine Home Circuit Court to ten years in prison after he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of rape and sexual touching of a 15-year-old child.
Justice Betram Morrison, in sentencing the accused on Thursday, July 15, stipulated that the defendant was to serve 10 years for the rape charges, and five years for the acts of sexual touching.
According to the ruling, both prison terms are to be served concurrently, meaning that the convict will only spend a decade behind bars. Morrison also recommended that the man’s name be added to the sex offenders registry.
The origins of this case date back to 2021, with the senior citizen having sexually molested and assaulted three underage girls within his care. In February the next year, one of the victims reported the incident to a relative, who quickly took the matter to the police.
The elderly man was subsequently arrested and charged.
The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges in October 2024, rather than fight it out in the courts. His exact identity has not been released to protect his victims from unwanted attention.
