The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) is thrilled to announce its 2026 Hummingbird Gala on Friday, October 16th at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. 

The event will bring together guests from around the world for an evening of philanthropy, celebration, and community, while honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to Jamaica and its people. The Gala is a major driver of funds needed to support the AFJ’s annual programs in Jamaica while recognising the continued generosity of its philanthropists and donor community. 

Dr. Andrew Holness, Prime Minister of Jamaica, will attend the Gala, adding to an evening that will celebrate the enduring ties between Jamaica and the United States Of America.

This year, the AFJ is proud to present the International Achievement Award to Adam Stewart, CD., Hon. LLD, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts, and the International Humanitarian Award to Sheryl Lee Ralph, OJ, Hon., Emmy® Award-winning Actress, President and CEO of The DIVA Foundation.

Adam Stewart is being honoured for decades of institution-building and business leadership that has created a legacy beyond the shores of Jamaica and the Caribbean. Through the Sandals Foundation, We Care Foundation, and Sandals Corporate University, he has channelled tens of millions of dollars into healthcare, education, and disaster recovery across Jamaica.

Sheryl Lee Ralph is being honoured for championing HIV/AIDS awareness at a time when the disease carried devastating stigma, and most recently, her focus on supporting Chantilly Primary School in Manchester, Jamaica her mother, Ivy Ralph’s, alma mater. Also distinguished is her decades-long career in film, television and Broadway, while she remains a proud, visible ambassador for her Jamaican heritage. 

The evening begins with a cocktail reception premiering an auction collection of exclusive items and experiences. The Official Gala program will include remarks from AFJ President Wendy Hart and the AFJ vignette presented by Executive Director Caron Chung, followed by a gourmet dinner, the introduction of the honorees, closing remarks leading to the entertainment/After Party. The evening will feature an exclusive performance by reggae and dancehall pioneer Sister Nancy and her brother Brigadier Jerry, showcasing the best of Jamaican culture.

The AFJ is dedicated to supporting education, healthcare, and economic development initiatives across Jamaica. Through grants and partnerships with local organisations, the AFJ has helped drive lasting growth, making sure critical resources reach those who need them most.
