Former midfielder Angus Eve was today (June 13) appointed interim head coach of Trinidad and Tobago’s national senior team. The appointment will run until August 31, 2021.

Eve replaces former Tottenham Hotspur player, Terry Fenwick, who was fired on Friday after a failed World Cup campaign in which the national team was unable to advance from Group F of CONCACAF qualifying following a 0-0 draw against the Bahamas on June 5.

Prior to the appointment, the 49-year-old Eve was the head coach of Club Sando in the Trinidad and Tobago Professional League.

“I’m really honored and privileged to have this opportunity to continue to represent my country. I’m committed to provide a lift to Trinidad and Tobago, especially in this time where we are battling with so many different adversities at the same time,” said Eve, who scored 34 goals in 117 matches for T&T between 1994 and 2005.

According to the FIFA-appointed Normalization Committee that currently runs the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association, with the Gold Cup around the corner, the appointment of an interim head coach had to be made in very short order.

 As such, a selection panel of NC Member Nicholas Gomez, Anton Corneal, Anthony Sherwood and Richard Chinapoo met on June 12, to finalize the selection of the interim head coach and Eve was recommended to the committee as the preferred candidate.

“We thank the previous coaching staff for their commitment and efforts. We now look forward to the Gold Cup competition and wish Angus all the best. We will do our very best to support him and the team,” said Normalisation Committee Chairman Robert Hadad.

The normalization committee will be consulting with Eve to finalize his coaching staff.

After the Gold Cup, a process overseen by an independent selection panel will invite and review applications, in anticipation of appointing the new Senior Men’s National Team head coach in September 2021.
