‘COVID-19’
‘COVID’
‘Corona’
These are terms that have been in our face and ears ever since March 2020. These word have become like a universal language.
Now that covid has become such an integrated part of our lives, it is easy to forget and overlook some of the protocols and revert to old ways.
Regularly sanitising and washing your hands by now should be standard. Washing your hand is always recommended over sanitising. Although a very frequent practice, are you washing your hands properly?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that proper hand washing plays an integral role in lowering the transmission of infectious diseases and can prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
Here are seven steps to take to properly wash your hands:
Step 1 – Wet
Wet your hands properly with clean running water. Generally people tend to apply the soap before they apply the water, when in fact you should wet your hands first to make it easier to lather your skin with soap.

Step 2 – Lather
Apply enough soap to lather your hands and wrists.

Step 3 – Scrub
Apply the soap thoroughly on your hands and all the way up to your wrists. Soap should be applied between your fingers, your fingernails and fingertips. You should scrub your hands and wrists for at least 20 seconds before you rinse.

Step 4 – Rinse
After applying the soap thoroughly from your hands to your wrists, the next step is to rinse, preferably with running water. Rinse from your wrists down to your hands.

Step 5 – Dry
After rinsing, get a clean towel to dry your hands in or air dry them. And that’s it!
