Well-known Jamaican attorney Captain Paul Beswick has died, reportedly of complications related to COVID-19.

As news of Beswick’s death began circulating today (April 10), tributes have started pouring in on social media.

In a post on Twitter, responding to a report on Nationwide Radio, colleague attorney Clive Mullings said: “I am saddened to learn of the passing of my colleague at the Bar Capt. Paul Beswick. My sincere condolences to Justice Carol Beswick and the other members of the family. Paul was mercurial and astute and I will never forget him telling me about his career in the JDF.”

Greg Christie, executive director of the Integrity Commission, also said he was extremely saddened to learn of Beswick’s death.

“Paul, his wife, Carol, others and I, shared a special bond and friendship as University classmates. My sincere condolences to his wife and daughters. May his soul RIP,” Christie said.

Aloun Ndombet-Assamba, referencing the recent losses suffered by Jamaica’s legal community, said: “RIP to all our colleagues who have died. The latest is Paul Beswick.”

Just two weeks ago, the community was struck by the death of attorney-at-law William McCalla, husband of former Chief Justice Zaila McCalla.
