It was a momentous week for the NCB Group – talk about night of the long knives!
Executive Chairman Michael Lee Chin strode into town and presided over many of the senior management team having to say good bye and clear their desks.
The writing was on the wall when head honchos Patrick Hylton and Dennis Cohen were despatched on leave never to return.
With no dividends being paid in over two years, a falling share price, anemic profits, poor customer service and NCB resting on its laurels, account had to be given, a price had to be paid for lack of vision and progress.
Following Hylton and Cohen out of the door was Septimus “ Bob “ Blake , Nadeen Matthews Blair, Steven Gooden, Vernon James and Gabrielle Banbury-Kelly.
The house was being cleaned, a new order being imposed.
Chairman Lee-Chin has stressed the focus will now be placed on Efficiency, Governance and Customer Service (EGC).
He has vowed to pay a dividend this calendar year and will be raising an APO.
The troika of Michael Lee Chin, Robert Almeida and Bruce Bowen will be steering the good ship NCB from the perilous boulders and choppy seas back into more tranquil waters and bountiful fishing grounds with a new officer corps.
The interim CEO of the bank, Bruce Bowen is tried, tested and proven. An experienced banker who chooses his words carefully, it is generally acknowledged that Bowen steadied the ship at Scotia Group Jamaica, when Bill Clarke pulled up his trousers and upped sticks. Bowen oversaw the transformation of Scotia Puerto Rico which was undergoing turmoil similar to what has been occurring at NCB. Between 2013 and 2016, Bowen served as Senior Vice President for Scotia Bank Caribbean with operations in 20 countries.
