Thirty-three-year-old electrical engineer Dylan saved himself thousands of dollars by eating all his meals at a Six Flags amusement park for almost seven years.

Back in 2014, on the first day of his internship, Dylan noticed the establishment nearby. He saw all the fancy rides and, in particular, took notice of some of the deals they were offering.

This included paying US$150 to receive unlimited, year-round access to Six Flags, inclusive of meals.

The close proximity of his workplace to park also made it even more convenient, as he only had to drive for roughly five minutes to get there.

By doing this, Dylan was able to pay off all his student loans, using the money he would have spent on his daily meals – and let’s be real, food is very expensive!

“That entire first year, I don’t think I ever went to the grocery store,” Dylan said.

Initially there was no variation to the meals and most of what was available was very fattening, including pizza, burgers and fries. Over time, Six Flags expanded the menu, introducing much healthier options and even adding vegan meals which the engineer appreciated.

Now married, Dylan said at the time his wife moved in, he had to stop doing dinners and meals on weekends.

“My wife moved in and I stopped doing dinners — and weekends, too, since she’s not as big into roller coasters as I am,” he said.

Not only was he able to pay off his student loans, but he saved thousands of dollars as well, enabling him to buy a house. He now resides close to Six Flags and has no intention of giving up this life hack!

“We just bought a house here, so I’m not really going anywhere,” he said. “As long as they keep changing the menu, I’m happy,” the engineer shared.
