The Ministry of Health and Wellness says 23 new COVID-19 cases were recorded between January 30 and February 5.

The number reflects a decline in cases compared to the week prior (January 23 to January 29), when 28 cases were reported.

Additionally, the positivity rate for the virus declined from 12.8 per cent the week prior to 10.3 per cent in the latest report. This means that fewer individuals when tested, had a positive result for the virus.

The majority of cases were recorded in St Catherine, which had a tally of seven. Kingston and St Andrew followed shortly with four cases, while Manchester, Westmoreland, and St Elizabeth had three new cases each.

Only five parishes did not record a new case between January 30 and February 5. The remaining three parishes had one case each.

As of February 30, there are 34 active cases of the virus on the island, an increase compared to the week prior, which had 28 cases.

There were no reports of deaths confirmed to be COVID-19-related. However, there were two coincidental deaths reported.

A coincidental death is one in which an individual had the virus but also had other underlying issues that could have resulted in their death.

One death was placed under investigation.

The ministry continues to urge citizens to protect themselves from the virus through sanitisation, mask-wearing, and other methods. COVID-19 vaccines are also available at health centres across the island.
