Led by Deandra Dottin’s career-best century, the West Indies Women opened their three-match ODI tour of Pakistan with a 46-run victory over the hosts at Karachi on today (November 8).

Sent to bat by Pakistan, Dottin, who opened with Rashada Williams, provided the backbone of the innings as the West Indies Women posted 253-8 from their 50 overs.

Williams, who got off to a slow start, made only 15 in an opening stand of 44. Captain Stafanie Taylor did not last long, making only six runs in a second wicket partnership of 28 with Dottin. However, her dismissal paved the way for a partnership of 119 between Dottin and Hayley Matthews, who made 57.

CAMPBELLE DISMISSED FOR 23

The diminutive Barbadian would combine with Shemaine Campbelle for a fourth-wicket partnership of 44 before she was eventually out for 132 made off 146 balls from which she hit 18 fours and two sixes.

Campbelle was eventually dismissed for 23 by left-arm spinner Anan Amin, who was the main destroyer for Pakistan with 5-35 from her 10 overs.

Chasing 254 for victory, Pakistan were in early trouble at 51-3 in the 12th over as Shakera Selman removed Sidra Ameen for two and Ayesha Zafar for 17 inside the first eight overs. Anisa Mohammed contributed with the wicket of Muneeba Ali for 28.

A 57-run stand between Kainat Imtiaz (24) and Iram Javed (40) held up the West Indies’ progress before Hayley Matthews removed both in quick succession as Pakistan Women slipped to 121-5. They Windies Women met additional resistance from Aliya Riaz and Captain Sidra Nawaz, who stitched together a sixth-wicket partnership of 43 before Nawaz was dismissed by Qiana Joseph for 23.

Matthews took her third wicket when she bowled Fatima Sana for three as Pakistan slid towards defeat.

With five overs left, Pakistan Women were 193-7 needing to score at an improbably 12.20 runs an over to achieve victory. The pressure proved to be too much as Riaz was eventually run out for 46 leaving Pakistan needing to score 52 from the last three overs.

Matthews finished with figures of 3-31 from her 10 overs while Selman took 2-35 as Pakistan’s innings closed on 208-9.
