Defending Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah clocked a blistering 10.71 seconds to win the women’s 100m—setting a new meet record at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix on Tuesday afternoon (July 6).
Thompson-Herah finished ahead of Jamaican compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Ivorian speedster Marie-Josée Ta Lou, who ran times of 10.82s and 10.86s for second and third respectively.
The double Olympic winner’s time broke a nearly six-year record set by now-retired sprint queen Veronica Campbell-Brown, who ran 10.99s on July 5, 2015.
Elaine Thompson-Herah beat a quality field, which also comprised Blessing Okagbare, Michelle-Lee Ahye, Ajla Del Ponte and Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison.
American Kayla White did not start at the Gyulai István Memorial, a World Athletics continental tour gold level series.
