The fire at Petrojam’s refinery on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston is under control, and the Government is assuring all that it will not impact the supply of fuel to the country.

Recently appointed General Manager of Petrojam, Danville Walker, said no staff members were hurt, and the fire has been extinguished.

It is believed that the fire was caused by a routine operational procedure, but as a precaution, another part of the refinery was closed down. 

Everything is fine, and Petrojam is back on track and is in working order.

Petrojam’s rated refining capacity is 36,000 barrels per day on 30-degree API crude and 32,00 per day on 26-degree API crude. The average production rate typically runs at 28,000 to 32,000 barrels per day depending on the crude mix. 

Petrojam provides products like diesel, gasoline and asphalt. It is the only refinery in Jamaica. 

Minister of Energy, Daryl Vaz said: “I can confirm there was a fire at Petrojam. Thankfully, there were no injuries and no impact on fuel supplies.”

A probe is underway to determine what exactly led to the fire.
