A man is now hospitalised under police guard following an incident on Franklyn Avenue, Kingston 16, which led to the seizure of a 9mm pistol and nine-9mm rounds of ammunition on Thursday, March 14, by the police.

According to reports from the Elletson Road police, about 9:30 a.m. a man had a dispute with a woman in his community when he fired shots in the area and left.

While walking along the avenue, he reportedly attempted to remove the firearm from his waistband when he shot and injured himself.

The suspect reportedly removed his clothes and hid the firearm. The police were summoned and he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigations led to a snap raid being carried out at his home, where his clothes and the firearm, along with a magazine containing eight-9mm rounds, were found beneath a concrete wash tub inside his yard.

The ammunition was taken from his pants pocket. They were subsequently seized.

Investigations are ongoing.
