Firefighters in St Elizabeth are now engaged in a massive rescue effort to release a policeman who became trapped in his vehicle after an oil spill at a section of the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester caused a seven-vehicle collision.

The head of the St Elizabeth Police Division, Deputy Superintendent Coleridge Minto, said the Spur Tree Hill main road remains impassible until officials have cleaned the spill and removed the wreckage.

There have been no report of fatalities. However, a number of persons including police personnel sustained injuries in the crash.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, as well as to observe and follow all road signs.

Traffic delays should also be expected in the area.
