After a whopping 23,000-student start, the Education Ministry is today (July 6) reporting the initial success of its National Summer School Programme.

The programme, which forms one of the ministry’s three-component Recover Smarter – National School Learning and Intervention Plan, began online on Monday (July 5) with face-to-face starting on Tuesday.

In a press release dated today, the ministry indicated that some 23,000 students logged on between yesterday and today for the start of the programme’s online component where lessons were being provided on the Learning Hub, EduFocal and One on One Educational Services Limited platforms.

To date, teachers have recommended some 58,000 students for the face-to-face component and 5,500 tutors have expressed an interest in working in the programme.

St Jago High School students practise social distancing during face-to-face class.

At present, teams from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information have already mapped approximately 20,000 of the students to schools and tutors for face-to-face and continue to adjust as the numbers grow.

Persons who have been approved so far for face-to-face lessons were notified to report to school today and the remaining groupings will report on Wednesda, due to scheduling of the space as guided by the COVID-19 protocol.

Registration for the face-to-face component can be accessed via the educate.gov website (https://educate.gov.jm/), and registration details for the online component are provided in the table below along with a link for teachers who may be interested in working as tutors online.
