An entire section of the coastal town of Belle Garden has been cordoned by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), as detectives today (May 28) launched an investigation into the bizarre discovery of 14 male bodies.
According to a statement by the TTPS, 14 bodies, all men, as well as human skeletal remains were stacked in a boat floating four miles off Belle Garden, Tobago.
The bodies were in an advanced stage of decomposition.
In its preliminary report, the TTPS said that fishermen Lance Biggart, Doyle Cornwall and Jason Broomes were netting off Belle Garden at around 6:30 am Friday, when they spotted a ‘strange vessel’. The three fishermen unknowingly wade into a major crime scene.
“Upon investigating, the fishermen found the decomposed bodies. The fishermen then contacted the Police and the Coast Guard. The fishermen pulled the vessel ashore at the Belle Garden Bay,” the TTPS statement noted.
“The bodies, all men, were in an advanced state of decomposition. The bodies were eventually removed to the mortuary at the Scarborough General Hospital to await identification and subsequent autopsies to determine the causes of death,” the police added.
The entire area was cordoned off as investigations continue.
