Low-cost American carrier, Frontier Airlines, has announced the start of its first, year-round service to Antigua and Barbuda as of December 4.

The twin-island nation, according to a statement from the Ministry of Tourism and Investment, was the first Caribbean country to be selected by Frontier—with the US-based company jump-starting efforts to expand its regional network for the upcoming winter tourist season.

The non-stop service will operate weekly on Saturdays with flights to Antigua’s VC Bird International Airport from its base at the Orlando International Airport in Florida.

Frontier Airlines will operate an Airbus320-Neo, with introductory fares to Antigua starting as low as US$99.

Back in July, when the announcement was first made, Minister of Tourism Charles Fernandez said, “The launch of the new service out of the busy Orlando airport opens up an important gateway to Antigua, with links to major US cities. We can now look forward to meeting the increased demand coming out of the US this winter and from all indications, we can also expect to see more competitive pricing brought on by Frontier Airlines’ affordable rates.”

CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Colin James called the airline’s decision, “good news for the industry, good news for Antigua and Barbuda, and a show of confidence in our rebound.”

James said, “Those additional 186 passengers every Saturday will certainly go a long way in providing us with the alternative options that we need from other gateway cities in the USA into Antigua.”

“Enjoy beautiful planes, excellent service, and huge savings when you fly Frontier Airlines from Orlando, Florida to the gorgeous Caribbean island of Antigua this winter,” Elite Island Resorts, the destination’s leading all-inclusive company, said in a media release.

Elite’s Antigua hotel portfolio includes The Verandah; Hammock Cove, the St James’ Club; Galley Bay; and the Pineapple Beach Club.

All of these properties are now open to travellers. However, those aged 16 years and old must show proof of vaccination to enter.
