Governor General Sir Patrick Allen has reappointed attorney Hugh B Faulkner commissioner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) for a second five-year term.
The reappointment took place yesterday at King’s House, the official office of the Governor General, where Faulkner signed and received his instrument of appointment from Sir Patrick.
Faulkner was first appointed on July 29, 2020, to head the body charged to lead independent investigations into alleged misconduct by members of the security forces and other state agents.
INDECOM is also mandated to ensure accountability, transparency, and the rule of law remain central to Jamaica’s justice system. He replaced Terrence Williams, who did not seek a third extension of his contract, departing in July 2020.
Prior to this appointment at INDECOM, Faulkner served for 12 years as Executive Director of the Legal Aid Council. Faulkner is a past member of the Teachers’ Appeal Tribunal, former Chairman of the Copyright Tribunal and a member of the Expungement Panel.
The senior counsel has served on numerous boards, including Toll Authority of Jamaica as Chairman, Mico University College, Jamaica Intellectual Property Office, Jamaica Mortgage Bank as Chairman of the Governance & HR Committees, Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica, Jamaica Social Investment Fund and the Legal Aid Council.
