Newly appointed chief executive officer of the NCB Jamaica Limited (NCB), Bruce Bowen, says as the company undergoes a series of changes, more focus will be placed on three key areas which include efficiency, governance, and customer service.
Bowen who is no stranger to the banking industry having served as CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica for more than two decades is set to occupy the role of CEO at the commercial bank effective Saturday, October 1.
“My biggest interest when I was approached and asked about it is NCB is an amazing entity in Jamaica so, you have the largest bank in the country, you have a great customer base, you got a history, NCB has had a huge impact on the country. There has been a huge amount of change over the last couple of months and change always makes people uncertain so it is important that we really focus on our key strategic priorities and has our chairman Michael Lee-Chin has said our focus needs to be in three key areas; efficiency, governance and customer service, so all things we need to focus on,” he said.
“We need to ensure we are getting to our customers, whenever you have a lot of things going on it is easy to forget that’s our key priority, so making sure throughout the organization we do a lot of refocusing on customers. We can be more efficient and that’s something that has been talked about for a while,” Bowen added.
NCB’s interim CEO further noted that the organization is now working to use the available technology to improve the overall efficiency of the company.
“The next month or two is me talking with the team. Working on the structure. We have just appointed three EVP’s (executive vice presidents) that will operate within the bank a coordination team for myself…We have started sitting down and thinking how with the strategic priorities we are going to get the team focused to deliver for our customers,” Bowen said.
The commercial bank recently announced changes to several leadership positions in an effort to improve its overall customer service.
