There has been a slight reduction in the number of Jamaicans who committed suicide last year, when compared to the previous year.

According to data from the Jamaica Constabulary, a total of 62 Jamaicans committed suicide last year with males accounting for 53 of the total figure.

This is a slight decline from the 64 lives lost in 2022 as a result of suicide, according to figures published in the Economic and Social Survey Jamaica by the Planning Institute of Jamaica.

The parish of St James recorded the highest number of suicide deaths for last year, 10, with males accounting for nine.

St James was followed by the St Andrew North Police Division, which recorded 8, Manchester, 7; and St Catherine South, 6.

The parish of Trelawny, Kingston Western and Kingston Central did not record any suicide-related deaths last year.
