
Statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) indicate that all major crimes were down by 10.7 per cent in 2023 when compared to 2022.
There were 1,393 murders recorded last year, a 7.8 per cent decline when compared to 2022.
According to the JCF report, the St James Police Division had 187 murders, the highest number of murders recorded in any police division across the island. St Andrew South followed with 123 murders, while St Catherine North closed out the top three with 120 murders recorded.
There were 1,101 shootings in 2023. The numbers reflect a six per cent decline compared to the previous year. The majority of the shooting incidents occurred in the Westmoreland Police Division with 119.

Reports of rape saw a 17.5 per cent decline.
Robberies went down by 15.3 per cent, and break-ins decreased by 12.7 per cent.
