Kevin Lawrence has released a cover of Delroy Wilson’s Run Run that he hopes will find as much success as the original. Lawrence’s version of the song was produced by Diamond-selling recording artiste Shaggy and veteran producer Mr. Doo on the Doo Run rhythm.
Wilson, widely regarded as Jamaica’s first child star, was one of the biggest names in Jamaican music between the 1960s and 1970s. Songs like Dancing Mood, I Shall Not Remove and Feel Good All Over, made him a household name in Jamaica.
He released a number of Ska hits for legendary producer ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd, for whom he recorded Run Run in the early 1970s. He would later record another version of the song for producer Keith Hudson.
“I grew up listening to many great singers from various genres of music and Delroy Wilson was truly one the best Reggae singers. I love his music a lot, and Run Run is one of my favourite songs. So I was thrilled to do a remake of Run Run.”

Lawrence believes his modern version of Run Run can achieve a similar level of success to Wilson’s original.
“Everyone who has heard my cover of Run Run has given it the thumbs up,” he said.
“It’s also getting support from DJs in various parts of the world including the Caribbean, Europe, the US, Africa and the UK. I strongly believe that this song is going to be a hit.”
The Kingston-born singer says it was a pleasure to record Run Run because it’s one of his favourite songs.
“I grew up listening to many great singers from various genres of music and Delroy Wilson was truly one the best Reggae singers. I love his music a lot, and Run Run is one of my favourite songs. So I was thrilled to do a remake of Run Run,” he said.
“It’s a great experience to work with Mr. Doo and Shaggy. I am learning a lot from them, and I am recording some wonderful songs. I want the fans to know that I have more musical treats in store for them so they can expect a lot of new music from me very soon.”
Wilson died in 1995 and was posthumously awarded the Order of Distinction in 2013.
