Former President Donald Trump has to contend with four indictments and 91 criminal charges.

This is unprecedented in American history and could very well see a president in jail.

It seems like every other week, Trump is before a judge in court.

Next year he will be battling to become the next president of the United States, looking to unseat Joe Biden who narrowly beat him in 2020.

Trump is the frontrunner to win the Republican nomination. It’s hard to see Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Mike Pence and Chris Christie even getting close. He is the 800 pound gorilla in the room and he’s beating his chest letting them all know.

Despite his legal woes, Trump still has to get his message across on the campaign trail. How does he intend to reinvigorate the economy? What are his plans for the country’s infrastructure? How will he address the opioid epidemic? What will his foreign policy look like and how will he take on the Ukraine/Russia situation?

Last time out he managed to rally women and blue collar workers. How does he unify a divided America?

He doesn’t want to spend the remainder of the summer, indeed the remainder of the year, defending himself and fighting off criminal, state and federal charges. It’s hard to counternance a former President indicted under the RICO statute for racketeering.

Trump has denied all charges but must make his case to the American people as to why he would make the best President given those who have thrown their hat in the ring. Right now he exudes more energy and vitality than Biden though he is just three years younger at 77.

He remains tremendously popular and despite his legal troubles enjoys good will. Can he leverage that and once again demonstrate why he is a formidable political athlete. Why would America be better under his leadership?

Donald Trump has to establish quickly that his 23/24 campaign will be vastly different from 2020. He has to get buy-in as to his fitness to lead and the direction the greatest economy on earth has to take.

By constantly remonstrating about how he was hard done by in the 2020 presidential election and that he was robbed of the presidency by corrupt officials, berating legal officers who won’t give him a fair hearing, flailing and disbursing a fusillade of promises of retribution and accusations he may turn American away from him if they take the attitude, “Boo-Ho, poor you”.

There’s only so far a sob story can go. Best shake it off and get ready for the next battle.

Trump has defied the odds before but this time he is the favourite, he is leading the pack.

He must give himself the chance to cross the finish line.

He has to be rallying figure, not a divisive one.
