Individuals across Jamaica and other countries in the Caribbean were rocked out of their beds this morning by a massive magnitude 7.2 earthquake 6 km from L’Asile, Haiti.

The quake struck at 7:29 am.

Among the other affected countries were The Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States Minor Outlying Islands, and Cuba.

With no detailed reports yet out of Haiti, the country, currently facing turmoil in the wake of the assassination of President Jovenel Moise, has struggled over the past decade to recover from the tragic magnitude 7.0 quake in January 2010 that resulted in the deaths of more than a quarter million people.

More to come.
