Mixed movements in Jamaica’s producer prices in July

Jamaica’s Producer Price Index (PPI) is showing mixed movements in producer prices for the month of July.

The index, which is measured by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) shows producer prices for the Mining & Quarrying industry declining by 2.0% during the month, while the index for the Manufacturing industry increased by 0.7%.

The decline in the Mining & Quarrying industry was influenced by a 2.2 % decrease in the index for the major group ‘Bauxite Mining & Alumina Processing’, due to lower alumina prices on the international market.

The upward movement recorded in the index for the Manufacturing industry was due to an increase in the index for the major groups ‘Food, Beverages & Tobacco’ (0.9%), ‘Refined Petroleum Products’ (0.6%), and ‘Chemicals and Chemical Products’ (1.0%).

 For the period July 2025 – July 2026, the point-to-point index for the Mining & Quarrying industry declined by 8.0%, while the point-to-point index for the Manufacturing industry increased by 9.9%.
