As the Ministry of Justice seeks to boost the nation’s complement of Justices of the Peace (JPs), 28 more Jamaicans are being commissioned into service this afternoon (January 17).
These JPs are for the parish of St James. This will be the first cadre of JPs to be commissioned for the parish for 2024.
The commissioning of JPs will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, starting at 2:00 pm.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck will deliver the main address at the commissioning ceremony while parish custos Bishop Conrad Pitkin is scheduled to attend.

The primary functions of a JP is attesting and authenticating documents under the official seal, for example; passport forms, passport size pictures and banking applications.
In addition, JPs perform judicial functions in parish or lay magistrates’ courts.
