Robert Morgan, minister without portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) with responsibility for Information, is assuring teachers that the compensation review exercise being done by Government is for the long-term benefit of all public-sector workers.

In a discussion with educators at a Mathematics Week expo at the Prospect Primary School in Clarendon on Thursday (March 30), the de facto minister pointed out that the review has simplified Government’s complex wage structure while striving to ensure equity for all.

He said that by rolling allowances into salary the Government has increased the pensionable income, which will provide workers with a larger benefit upon retirement.

Morgan also stressed that much was done to improve the conditions of those at the lowest levels.

“So, what we’ve done is we’ve done a lot of work to lift up the people at the bottom,” he explained.

The public-sector compensation review, implementation of which commenced on April 1, 2022, is intended to overhaul the structure of salaries and other emoluments in the public service to make it more equitable.

The exercise, being undertaken over three fiscal years, is expected to conclude in 2024/25 and will provide workers with a 20 per cent salary increase over the period.
