Sunil Narine followed up on his history-making half-century in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) semi-finals two days ago with another match-winning performance, this time with bat and ball, as the Comilla Victorians defeated Fortune Barishal by one run to win their third title on Friday (February 18).

Comilla Victorians won previous titles in 2015 and 2019.

In what was a rematch of the first qualifier that Fortune Barishal won by 10 runs, Comilla Victorians managed to turn the tables when it mattered most.

Narine smashed five fours and five sixes in his 23-balls that propelled the 2022 champions to 151-9 off their 20 overs. He got support from Moeen Ali who contributed 38 off 32 balls.

Abu Hider added 19 at the back end of the innings as Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 2-27 and 2-32 from Shafiqul Islam helped to keep the batters in check. Dwayne Bravo took 1-26.

Chasing a gettable target, Fortune Barishal made a mess of things, falling away from 103-3 in the 13th over after Shykat Ali scored 58 from 34 balls with 11 fours and a six, and Chris Gayle’s 33 from 31 balls provided a solid platform.

Narine took 2-15 and Tanvir Islam 2-25, which triggered a slide for Fortune Barishal that resulted in them coming up one run short in a thrilling contest.
