Opposition Spokesperson on Local Government and Sports Natalie Neita Garvey has condemned the murder of two women at the National Solid Waste Management Authority’s (NSWMA) Spanish Town Road facility.
The incident that occurred on Monday involved an employee at the NSWMA, who was reportedly on her way to work when she was shot and killed. Neita Garvey said the victim was a dedicated worker of the garbage truck dispatching facility, and extended her condolences to family members.
“This tragic double homicide not only spotlights a grave disregard for human life in Jamaica, but also underscores an alarming trend of violence against Jamaican women,” said the Opposition spokesperson in a statement.
She urged the police to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice and extended her support to the NSWMA family.
Police reports indicate that the two women were mother and daughter. Their identities have not yet been revealed. The shooting occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the entrance of the NSWMA dispatch station.
