Rasheed Dwyer kept Jamaica’s hopes of a medal in the men’s 200 metres at the Tokyo Olympic Games alive as he ran a superb final 100 metres to progress to the final on Tuesday (August 3).

Dwyer, with Errigon Knighton of the United States of America (USA) toying with the field out in front, was in trouble at the end of the curve but had a determined effort to gradually pass his rivals for the one other automatic spot from the heat to advance to the final.

The Jamaican just got the better of Nigerian Divine Oduduru as both were locked in a duel to the final line.

The 17-year-old Knighton, running easy, clocked 20.02 seconds with Dwyer doing a season-best of 20.13s and Oduduru 20.16s.

Dwyer, who had won his heat earlier on Tuesday, is the only Jamaican left in the 200 metres, as Yohan Blake pulled out of the event, while Julian Forte finished seventh in his heat and did not progress.
