World number one Aryna Sabalenka’s incredible 20-match winning run at the Wuhan Open finally came to an end, as Jessica Pegula staged an amazing comeback to reach the final against Coco Gauff.

Sabalenka, who had dominated the Wuhan courts for the past three editions, looked well on her way to another final after storming ahead 5-2 in the deciding set with two breaks of serve. But Pegula wasn’t ready to back down. The 31-year-old American turned the match on its head, stringing together four straight games to wrestle back control.

Sabalenka managed to save two match points to force a tense tie break, but Pegula kept her cool and powered through to seal the 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) victory, to end Sabalenka’s reign.
