Jamaican industry and the motoring public are on the receiving end of ‘next-to-nothing’ reductions at the pumps this week, following an underwhelming revamp of Petrojam’s pricing regimen.
In its closely watched petroleum product price index, the State-owned refinery advised that 87-octane gasolene enjoys an anaemic J$0.25 drop effective Thursday (September 7), to open at an introductory price of J$188.20 per litre after applied taxes.
Owing to volatility on the global market, fortunes are mixed this week as pump costs largely remain fixed at their highest rates since October 2022.
Price cuts were consistent across most commodities excluding heavy fuel oil, propane and butane, which rose J$3.06, J$1.63 and J$1.95 respectively.
It is expected that retailers will add their mark-ups to the announced prices.
