The People’s National Party (PNP) is extending its sincerest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of veteran journalist and educator Winston ‘Babatunde’ Witter.
The PNP, in its statement, hailed the 62-year-old Witter as an established journalist and radio broadcaster.
In his early days, he worked as a journalist at some of the most prominent media houses including the Jamaica Gleaner, Jamaica Observer, Jamaica Herald and Sunday Herald.
Babatunde, as he was affectionately called, became a household name in radio broadcasting in the 1990s, when he began hosting a popular daytime show on KLAS Radio.
He was known for his controversial views and his ability to easily connect with Jamaicans who felt disenfranchised. He also hosted a nightly show called Shades of The Morning on Irie FM.
Dr Dayton Campbell, PNP general-secretary, in his tribute to Witter, said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of the great Winston ‘Babatunde’ Witter. He was larger than life; a personality that helped to define the media landscape in the 90s and who created waves with his unique journalistic style. He was a true patriot and a defender of the rights of Jamaicans. May his soul rest in power.”
