The St. Ann Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 44-year-old Cameka Haley, a hospital attendant at the St Ann’s Bay Hospital who was found dead at her Charles Town home in the parish last Saturday (January 27).
The police say Haley’s common-law spouse, Kevan Shirley of Parry Town, Ocho Rios, St. Ann is the main suspect in the investigation into her death.
Reports are that Haley, who was last seen alive by her son that same evening of Thursday, was involved in an argument at her home with Shirley.
Her son reportedly discovered Haley’s lifeless body on Saturday morning and alerted the authorities.
Upon arrival, the police found her lying on her back on the floor, dressed in a nightgown and displaying noticeable black and blue marks on her neck and spots of blood on her clothing.
The police say the cause of Haley’s death is still undetermined.
Reports are that Shirley was found on January 29, in Higgins Land, Alexander, after he had reportedly ingested a corrosive substance, and jumped into a concrete water tank in an alleged suicide attempt.
Shirley was later rescued and transported to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where he is currently admitted and in serious but stable condition.
Following news of Shirley’s hospitalization, citizens from the Marley community gathered at the hospital.
The police said additional police reinforcements were deployed to manage the situation after which the crowd was addressed and dispersed without further incident.
They are also urging persons with information regarding the incident to come forward.
