The police are now seeking a person of interest who they believe can assist them in their ongoing investigation of the discovery of several illegal firearms at the Freeport Warehouse in Montego Bay, St James on Friday, February 9.
He is known only by aliases CJ, Fugitive and Shippy.
The operation was carried out by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA).
According to reports from the police, utilising advanced, non-intrusive inspection technology, JCA officers detected anomalies within a shipment from Florida during a routine scanning procedure.
The suspicious consignment, a blue plastic barrel addressed to a recipient in Bogue Village, Montego Bay, St James, prompted a thorough examination of boxes of powdered detergent.
The discovery included: a Taurus Armas, HK VP9, CZP 09, Beretta APX, Glock 19 Gen 4, Glock 17, Glock 45, Canik TP9, Glock.
The police say this operation is a significant blow to the transnational movement of illegal weapons from North America into the Caribbean, demonstrating the effectiveness of the combined efforts to combat organised crime while protecting the country’s borders.
“This successful seizure is attributed to the diligent application of intelligence and cutting-edge technology, underscoring the commitment of the JCF and JCA to safeguarding our nation against this influx of illegal arms. Our efforts were supported by valuable insights from our international law enforcement partners, further highlighting the importance of global cooperation in our ongoing battle against criminal networks,” the JCF added.
Shippy is being asked to report to the nearest police station by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14.
