Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz defeated Suriname 2-0 at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida, on Monday, to take joint lead in the points standings with Costa Rica in Group C of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Sharmar Nicholson scored in the sixth minute and Bobby Reid added a second goal in the 26th to hand the Reggae Boyz all three points from the match, which is the first in the group.

The second match in the group between Guadeloupe and Costa Rica, saw a similar result at full time, in favour of Costa Rica which was played at the same stadium later Monday evening.

Both Jamaica and Costa Rica share the top spot in Group C, with three points apiece, while Suriname and Guadeloupe are pointless at the bottom of the table.

The Reggae Boyz took the lead from a build-up around the Suriname defence. Nicholson, slightly to the left of the penalty box, dribbled to the top of the arc and fired a grounder through several Suriname defenders, to the bottom of the left upright and into the goal.

Reid scored a scintillating goal, as he hit a headed clearance on the volley into the net again at the left post from just outside the penalty area.

The Jamaican was awarded with the Goal of the Day, by sponsors Toyota.
