Restorative practices (RP) training in schools across Jamaica is set to continue with Monday’s (January 29) signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between with the ministries of justice and education.

RP trainings facilitate the process of treating with maladaptive behaviours, to assist with the building of positive relationships among students, staff and parents. To date over 8000 training sessions have been completed in schools across the island.

This signing forms part of the ministry’s Restorative Justice Week of activities, scheduled from February 4 to 11, under the theme “Transformation, Peace and Harmony through Restorative justice.”

Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck will deliver remarks while representatives of Ministry of Education,, Ministry of National Security, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNICEF and Citizen Security Secretariat (CSS) will also bring remarks.

RP, which is a service under the Social Justice Division at the Ministry of Justice, seeks to resolve conflict by having all parties involved come together to reach an agreement and has an 80 per cent success rate.
