Over a month since Barbados-born pop singer Rihanna reached the ranks of society’s one per cent, deservingly earning her billionaire status, and still the surprise she feels each time her achievement is congratulated remains the same.
Speaking to reporters before the taping of her ‘Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 3’ event, which airs on Amazon Prime Video on Friday (September 24), the Kiss It Better singer expressed how “weird” it felt when congratulatory messages regarding her financial achievement began to pour in.
“You know it was really weird getting congratulations texts from people for money… . I was just like, wait… I never got congratulated for money before. That s$%t is crazy,” said Rihanna.
She noted, however, that the initial shock she felt towards the reactions from wellwishers later made sense when “I realided it was inspiring to people, that they felt like this is something they could achieve”.
Added the 33-year-old: “Knowing where I have come from, knowing my humble beginnings, they see the possibility and it gives them hope, and that made me feel really happy.”
According to Forbes magazine, Rihanna, born Robyn Fenty, thanks to her increased net worth spread across her music, her share in Fenty Beauty and her lingerie company, Savage X Fenty, is now the wealthiest female musician in the world and second only to Oprah Winfrey as the richest female entertainer.
