The National Housing Trust (NHT) is urging self-employed contributors to provide accurate information to avoid delays when accessing refunds eight years after making contributions.
This call is coming from NHT’s assistant manager for compliance management, Dameon McNally.
“Our process is electronic and if it is that the information [you provided in your application] does not match what we have on record, there will be a challenge. It creates an exception and when there is an exception, the refund will not be processed,” he said, noting that data integrity is one of the main reasons why persons have experienced difficulties accessing their funds.
Similarly, the assistant manager urged employees to provide accurate information to their employers who should make certain to submit correct information to the NHT.
“Additionally, persons who are self-employed must ensure that the information they provide in their refund application is consistent with what was submitted for that particular year,” McNally said.
He further implored employees who have undergone a name change to update their information at their place of work likewise updating the name on their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and tax registration number (TRN) cards.
The NHT is now accepting refund applications for contributions made in 2016 and prior years that have not been claimed.
