Senator Floyd Morris walks for blind society

Senator Floyd Morris led a contingent of blind walkers in the five-kilometre walk of the recent The Best Dressed Chicken/Everyone’s A Winner run/walk held at the Hope Gardens on Father’s Day, much to the admiration of the hundreds of participants. 

Proceeds of this year’s event are earmarked to benefit the scholarship fund of the Jamaica Society for the Blind’s vision centre and Latoya Butler, the 21-year-old daughter of a long-serving employee of The Best Dressed Chicken battling leukaemia.

It was a day full of fun, food and games, with individuals, corporate teams and father and child duos participating in the 11th staging of the event.  

Overall winners in the 5K Run Female category were Michka-Mae Hyde, first, with a time of 00:18:17; in second place was Sabrina McDonald, Papine High School, at 00:21:59 and Tonya Busse, Pacers Running Club, third, who came in at 00:22:24

In the 5K Run Male category, the winners were:  Noel-Jonathan Ellis, Team Link Up, first place with a time of  00:16:32; Kemar Leslie, Rainforest Caribbean, came in second at 00:16:34, while third place went to Jomo-Rhys Gilman, Rainforest Caribbean, at 00:17:19.

Overall first place in the 3K Run Female category was:  Ariel Dyche with a time of 00:14:30; second place went to Kaelyn Lawes, JN Group, who came in at 00:17:11 and Shadae Green, JN Group, third place winner with a time of 00:18:23.

In the 3K Run Male section, the overall winner was Royale Gordon of UCT Steppas, at 00:11:47; second place went to Royon Davis with a time of 00:12:51 and Oral Anderson of the Gleaner Company was third at the finish line at 00:13:19.

The first-place winners in the 5K Run Top Father and Child category were Eugent Dawes and Kendal Dawes of Legends Running Club, while Dominic Mullings and David Mullings of Mullo Running Club came in second.  Third place went to Stephen Royes and Abigail Royes of Pacers Running Club.

The Roy Thomas Award for the Top Champion Team went to Rainforest Caribbean, while the largest participating team was Restaurants of Jamaica with 135 finishers.
