Telecoms and entertainment company Flow Jamaica continues to suffer from rampant vandalism of its infrastructure put in place to better connect the country and provide essential services.

Flow is a major investor in Jamaica, ploughing over US$60 million a year into capital expenditure.

The wanton vandalism costs the company over US$2 million a year in restoration fees and millions more in lost revenue.

Flow is committed to serving the country and all its citizens but is constrained when its operations are hampered by criminality, theft, and vandalism.

It is also very discouraging to investors who in these difficult times  don’t what to see capital invested in the country siphoned off this way.

BROADBAND AN EVEN GREATER REQUIREMENT

With schools resuming classes next week, broadband will be an even greater requirement and is indeed a necessity in the digital age, which Prime Minister Andrew Holness has tirelessly repeated is imperative to Jamaica’s leap into developed world status.

Education and technology will become even more inextricably linked. In order for this to be so, all Jamaicans must have access to services. This will not be the case if essential materials are damaged and stolen.

All that does is serve to retard the country’s growth.

The Government will have to pay closer attention to this destructive behavour and put the requisite measures in place to counter it.
