Alberto Sanchez Gomez, a 28-year-old Spaniard was sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing his mother, then eating her remains.

Maria Soledad Gomez, aged 68, was strangled by her son after they engaged in a heated argument.

He then chopped up his mother and proceeded to eat parts of her over the next 15 days, feeding other parts of her to his dog.

This gruesome murder took place in 2019, with Alberto sentenced yesterday (June 15). This barbaric act has been likened to the behaviour of Hannibal Lecter, a character in the movie Silence of the Lambs.

Alberto Sanchez Gomez butchered his mother with a saw and knives and the parts of her he didn’t eat were stored in containers in the fridge he shared with his mother in their apartment in Ventas, Madrid.

Spanish police said he confessed to eating parts of his mother raw, while cooking some remnants of the corpse, storing bones around the house and feeding other parts to the dog. The police reported that he chopped his mother into “over a thousand pieces”.

Addressing the court, Alberto said: “I’m very repentant. I suffer anxiety from the moment I wake up.
“I think of my Mum and I’m absolutely heartbroken.”
