The police say they have collared a suspected firearm trafficker last Saturday (February 24), following an intelligence-driven operation in Green Pond, St James.

According to the authorities, the yet-to-be-identified man recently imported ‘prohibited weapons and ammunition’ to Jamaica.

Preliminary reports indicated that the operation was conducted between 10:00 am and 1:30 pm by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), at Ackee Tree Lane.

During the operation, the suspect was seen at a five-bedroom premises which was searched.

A 9mm Taurus G3C pistol was found along with 50 9mm cartridges, two 12-round capacity Taurus magazines and one extended Taurus magazine.

Additional information found in his cellular phones suggested that the suspect recently had four handguns in his possession and approximately 650 rounds of ammunition.

Scene was processed by investigators with photographs and DNA samples taken.
