When Stafanie Taylor got to 42 in the third ODI match against Pakistan Women on Sunday, she achieved another significant milestone in her already illustrious cricket career; 5,000 ODI runs to become the first West Indies Women’s player and only the third woman in history to reach that landmark.
Only Mithali Raj of India and Charlotte Edwards of England have scored 5,000 runs or more in women’s ODI cricket.
Taylor eventually ended unbeaten on 102, her seventh ODI ton, as the West Indies completed a series sweep against Pakistan Women scoring 226-4 chasing the hosts’ 225-7, to win by six wickets. Not surprisingly, the West Indies Women captain, who turned 30 in June, was extremely happy to join the pantheon of three.
“I think this is huge seeing that we were coming off a defeat to South Africa and to come here and win 3-0, we haven’t done that in a while and it’s really nice that we can do that and get ourselves match ready.”

“I love scoring runs and I love batting and once the team wins I’m really happy about that. It’s never happened before… and I’m hoping I get a hundred against one of the (higher ranked) teams. It’s really nice to reach such a milestone and I hope I continue to do that for West Indies,” said the Jamaican.
Turning her attention to the comprehensive sweep, Taylor believes the victories will provide the team with a boost in confidence heading to the ICC World Cup qualifiers later this month.
“I think this is huge seeing that we were coming off a defeat to South Africa and to come here and win 3-0, we haven’t done that in a while and it’s really nice that we can do that and get ourselves match ready,” she said.
