Three firearms were seized by the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) the Jamaican electorate cast ballots during the 2024 local government election on Monday, February 26.

This was revealed by Commissioner of Police Major General Anthony Anderson, who gave an update on proceedings on Monday.

“From all indications, the police officers who have been deployed were very attentive to what is going and very responsive to incidents that occured. There weren’t many incidents but over the course of the day, we recovered three firearms in separate incidents. There was a fatal shooting in Flankers, St James, where somebody was in the proximity of a polling station and had a illegal firearm on them. He was accosted by the police and arrested and in another incident where there was a shooting from a car, the car was chased, car was abondoned, so we recovered the weapon and the motor vehicle involved in that incident,” the police chief shared.

He said for the most part it was a relatively peaceful day, which can be attributed to the extensive police presence at the polling stations.

The police commissioner added that the JCF utilised modern technology to monitor activities across the island in real time.
