Tottenham did not miss Harry Kane this afternoon.

Playing fantastic football and weathering Manchester City’s  initial  storm, a well-organized Tottenham beat the champions 1-0 at home, the only goal of the game scored by Son.

This game showed it’s not all about money . This is a game about commitment, will, loyalty and skill.

The fans are back in the stadiums and EPL is back to its best.

If Kane is off to win trophies and make money at Manchester City, then Tottenham must get on with it  and establish themselves without him. On this afternoon’s showing they may very well do that.

Dele Alli has been given a fresh start by the new boss and he must grab it with both hands. Under Jose Mourinho  he was stifled and he did not have that manager’s confidence. There can be no doubt that Alli is a talent and he has to show Nuno what he is all about.

It’s a magnificent start for Nuno Espirito Santo who did a fine job at Wolves. Spurs fans will be happy with this opening game of their season.

Lucas Moura, Steven Bergwijn and Son were a formidable attacking force today.  Japhet Tanganga was brilliant defensively and arguably was the man of the match.

Harry Kane is a Spurs legend and one of the best strikers in the world. He still has a lot to offer the club and can be force under the stewardship of Nuno.

Spurs set down a marker today and they have to build on it. They were fantastic on the break and played with unbridled joy. This is what the club is about.

Jack Grealish cost Manchester City 100 million pounds. Pep Guardiola’s team had over 300 million of talent sitting on the subs bench and Spurs still turned them over.

Raheem Sterling has said that he doesn’t want to join Spurs but clock his face sitting with the team after being taken off by Pep. This may well be his fate this season.

Sterling was brilliant at the Euros and can be a talisman at a big club. He is a tip of the spear kind of player. He is not a second string footballer and he won’t be happy sitting on the bench.

Kane may well have watched this game today and maybe thinking …… you know what, I’m good at Spurs playing on the front foot football.

Then again he may feel, I want away and have to win trophies now. If that’s the case, adios, thanks for the memories.

“Are you watching Harry Kane?”
