Advance estimates suggest that United States construction spending declined by 0.5 per cent to US$1.57 trillion in September 2021 from the revised August estimate of US$1.58 trillion.

Construction investment reached US$1.17 trillion in the first nine months of this year, up 7.1 per cent from US$1.0 trillion in the same period of 2020.

Private construction spending was US$1.22 trillion on a seasonally adjusted yearly basis, down 0.5 per cent from the revised August estimate of US$1.23 trillion.

In September, residential building grew at a seasonally adjusted annual pace of US$773.5 billion, down 0.4 per cent from August’s revised estimate of US$776.8 billion.

In September, non-residential construction grew at a seasonally adjusted annual pace of US$456.4 billion, down 0.6 per cent from August’s revised estimate of US$459.3 billion.

Public Construction 

In September, the estimated seasonally adjusted annual rate of public construction spending was US$343.7 billion, 0.7 per cent below the revised August estimate of US$345.9 billion.

Educational construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of US$80.7 billion, 0.9 per cent above the revised August forecast of US$80.0 billion.

Highway construction was at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of US$99.8 billion, 0.7 per cent below the revised August estimate of US$100.5 billion.
