In 2021, twenty-five-year-old Bazn Berhe murdered 58-year-old Hernan Leiva at their place of work, Target, Virginia, for stealing his lunch.

Berhe planned and executed the murder using a hammer and knives purchased 48 hours before committing the crime. Berhe told detectives that he spent a day training for the murder.

Thirty years have been suspended, meaning Berhe will serve a minimum of 70 years for the first-degree murder charge.
