Votes trickle in as ECJ begins verification process

With the polls officially closed for the 2024 Local Government Elections, just under 40 per cent of votes have already been counted so far from polling stations across the island.
As at 7:06 pm, the latest live update from the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) in St Andrew, indicated that some 2,559 boxes have been counted, which is roughly 38 per cent of the cumulative 6,726 boxes generated during voting today.

On a granular level, the heated political battle under way in the Papine Division — being contested by the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Venesha Phillips against first-time People’s National Party (PNP) opponent Darrington Ferguson — is closer to being called with 72.73 per cent of ballots counted at 7:12 pm.
Some 32 of 44 boxes have already been counted.
