Twelve new buses were added to the Jamaica Urban Transit Company Limited (JUTC) fleet on Wednesday, April 10.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz made the announcement in a tweet on Thursday, April 11.

“The Government is fulfilling to its commitment to steadily improving public transportation for commuters. Twelve new buses were added to the JUTC fleet yesterday. Another 100 buses are scheduled to arrive in July 2024. I must thank Minister of Finance Dr Nigel Clarke for working alongside myself and the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport to make this a reality. We are leveraging economic benefits to improve the lives of Jamaicans,” Vaz said in a tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter.

He added that 10 per cent of all buses procured will have facilities for persons with disabilities.

Another 230 buses will be procured and added to the JUTC fleet by 2026 at a cost of J$5 billion.

The latest addition of buses is part of the transport minister’s previously shared three-year plan to acquire an impressive 300 alternative fuel buses for the JUTC.
